One platform for sharing information with your doctors.
The PSHR is a web-based platform administered by Safe Surgery SA (SSSA) that enables patient-centred information exchange between different members of the care team for a patient undergoing a surgical procedure. Central to its function is its interoperability – the ability to integrate with other data sources using similar health data standards.
The database is secure, and the managers and administrators of the PSHR have taken all reasonable measures to protect your data from, for example, hacking or unauthorized access. All persons who access the database, or who enter information on the database, are contractually and ethically bound by confidentiality.
The main objective is to ensure better patient care and better patient health outcomes. Every person who contributes their data to this system therefore assists in the achievement of this goal for the greater good of the health sector.
Your surgeon must have consented to have his/her practice information uploaded to the PSHR; check with your doctor if he/she participates. Ask for the information relating to your procedure that is required for pre-authorisation with the medical aid or funder. You will need this information to add a surgical procedure to your profile.
The PSHR is currently used as a data collection tool in the South African Collaborative Surgical Outcomes Study (SACSOS).
If you are a clinician (surgeon or anaesthetist) interested in allowing your patients the use of the PSHR, please choose one of the following options.
